#GivingTuesday: Featured Board Member

Dr. Ohmar T. Land, Board Governance Chair

It is an absolute honor serving as a board member of BBBS of the Upstate. With much zeal, I give as much of the three T’s (Time, Talent, and Treasure) that I can possibly give to uphold the mission and vision of BBBS along with my fellow board members.

First, I dedicate my time to the organization through board service. It is important that I play an active role on the board. As the Governance Committee Chair, I ensure that the bylaws are current and that our board membership is filled with a diverse roster of volunteers who are committed to the success of the organization. Each of our board members passionately serve on a committee and offer their expertise to make certain the organization runs efficiently and effectively. In addition, I along with three other board members volunteer as a Big and we proudly serve on the frontline of defending the potential of our Little.

Second, I commit my talent by serving as a mouthpiece and advocate to garner philanthropic support, build partnerships and increase our visibility in the community. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a proud board member.

Last, I support BBBS philanthropically. I believe wholeheartedly in the saying: ‘put your money where your mouth is’. I enjoy inviting others to support such a meaningful organization by giving their financial support to ensure we are able to continue the great work we do in the community by providing youth with a life changing resource – one to one mentorship. As a nonprofit, it is critical that we maintain diverse funding sources to safeguard organizational viability. As a board, we give at 100% and offer anyone who believes in BBBS of the Upstate the opportunity to join us in giving financially, volunteering as a Big, and partnering with us as we positively impact the future generation of potential.
