Going Beyond

See how BBBS mentoring can create an impact even beyond the match

The impact a mentor has goes vastly beyond the match itself. This week, we hear from a new perspective.  Stufona, Mother of Little Brother Shaun, shares the impact of mentoring that she has seen between her son and his Big Brother Jon:

“The opportunity to have 1-on-1 time has really helped Shaun with his emotional development. Jon has been there to help him grow through difficult situations, which has led to an enormous improvement in his confidence and interest in school. Our family is eternally grateful for the support and special bond Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate has fostered between Shaun and Jon over the years.”

As you can see, the relationship between Little Brother Shaun and Big Brother Jon has created a routine and space for the two to grow and flourish.

But, this has also given Stufona the time and energy to pursue goals beyond what she previously was able to.  In creating her own path, Stufona has completed an entrepreneur business class. Her outstanding business proposal was one of three finalists that won. Now, Stufona has recently opened Bake Your Mark bakery!

Feast For Kids’ Sake

Save the date for March 7th-13th

FEAST FOR KIDS’ SAKE is a week-long virtual event hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate.  This event celebrates the amazing food we have in Upstate South Carolina.

There are CHEF DEMONSTRATIONS by Chef Bill Twaler of the Truist Culinary and Hospitality Innovation Center at Greenville Technical College.  He is creating a delicious Italian-themed feast throughout the week including appetizer, entrée, dessert, and cocktail/mocktail.  These demonstrations will be posted on the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate Facebook page.

There is an amazing ONLINE AUCTION of all things food with gift cards from restaurants, wine bars and pubs, coffee shops, grocery stores, bakeries, meal kit companies, and more.

All funds raised will be used to create and support much needed mentoring relationships for at-risk children and youth in our community.  The impact you will make on DEFENDING THE POTENTIAL of these children and youth is especially crucial at this time.

There is still time to become a sponsor of or donor to this event.
